MAY mom: PROJECT PEACE SERIVCE CAMP
Project
Peace Service Camp, sponsored by Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace and
community partners, goal is reducing youth violence in Wilkinsburg by engaging
youth and young adults in service projects, such as cleaning blighted
properties, beautifying vacant spaces, and assisting residents affected by
violence.
Each
year after school is out for the summer, they pay 14-22 years old up to $350 to
work at the camp for five days. The program began after a tragic massacre on
Franklin Avenue and has been operating for years on a limited budget. Expenses
include stipends for coordinators and participants, paying for dumpsters to
clean out blighted properties, materials to board up windows/doors,
plants/flowers to beautify vacant spaces, lunch expenses for the campers, etc.
The
Mission Team is asking for donations to help with funding for Project Peace
Service Camp as our May Misson of the Month. Please mark your envelopes May MOM
